The Hatched to Fly Free Trust
In October 2008, at last….. protection for our birds,!!! the Scarlet Macaws (Ara macao) and the
Great Green Macaws (Ara ambigua).
Our birds have been part of our Amigos de las Aves breeding and reintroduction program since 1992.
The Scarlet Macaws are successfully forming the beginnings of a "corridor" on the south pacific coast.
Talks and investigations are in progress to secure a second site within the area. Thus continuing the
success of the Tiskita main release site.
Fledglings are already being produced and the flock is beginning to expand of its own accord.
Our Great Greens are fast becoming a focal point for their species, and our birds represent a significant
collection in the world. With numbers in Costa Rica on the rise - approximately 250 birds have been
estimated within the Costa Rican/Nicaraguan corridor - the indigenous birds face the massive loss of 20
acres of primary forest - cut during the night over the latter part of the year to house a gold mine.
With approximately 3000 birds remaining in the wild throughout the world, time maybe running out for
these magnificent birds.
Our aim for our Great Greens will be a soft release program that will be soley run and worked by Amigos
de las Aves and HatchedtoFlyFree Trust.
The HatchedtoFlyFree Trust has been formed for 100 years with the initial aim to: secure to the Trust, the 8 acres of property that the breeding centre currently resides upon.
Further aims will be to purchase a release area in the Southern Pacific zone for future and further
releases. To secure funding for the eventual complete running costs of the project in years to come.
To ensure the continuation of the work of the Amigos de las Aves Reintroduction Program in Costa Rica
begun by The Frisius Family and to safeguard this identity.
Family members form the basis of the board of Trustees, whilst other trustees have many years of experience in animal and business management, ensuring the safety and security of the Trust.
The Trust welcomes any donations and sponsorship towards these aims.
