2003 First birds released at Palo Verde
2004 First babies bred by released birds in Curu
2006 First birds bred in Palo Verde
2008 First babies bred by released birds in Tiskita
2009 The Ara Project was formed

OBJECTIVES

Establish a biological corridor for the Scarlet Macaw along the Pacific Coast, linking Macaws and other projects.
Achieve a soft release of Great Green Macaw
Continue research and monitoring of macaws at release sites
Publish scientific papers
Purchase land for a release site and breeding centre
Enhance facilites: education, nursery, flights
Aim for a release of Yellow Naped and Red Lored Amazons

GOALS

Promote environmental education (priority in areas neighboring the release sites)
Continue work with other organisations within Costa Rica (ASOPROLAPA and Zoo Aves)
Promote research and facilities for biologists/interns
Incorporate national biologists and staff
Advise and assist other release programs in the world.
